End Anonymous Arrests: Demand Visible ID for All Federal Agents

The Issue

We, the undersigned, demand federal legislation to prohibit anonymous arrests by law enforcement officers acting on U.S. soil.

Federal agents -- including those with ICE and DHS -- are routinely deployed wearing full masks, body armor, and without visible identification. Some have detained civilians without disclosing their names or agencies, creating a terrifying environment for vulnerable communities, particularly immigrants and citizens of Latin American descent.

This practice is un-American and dangerous. Public servants should never be allowed to operate without accountability. The absence of visible ID fosters abuse of power, undermines due process, and instills fear in the very people law enforcement is supposed to serve.

We call on Congress to:

  • Enact federal legislation requiring all federal law enforcement officers to display clear agency insignia and personal identification (badge number, name, or ID tag) during all public operations.
  • Prohibit the use of full facial coverings by federal agents except in rare, clearly defined situations (e.g., active undercover work).
  • Mandate body camera usage and record-keeping for federal officers during public engagements.

No one should be arrested by a faceless officer.

We urge immediate action to protect the civil rights of all Americans and restore accountability in our federal institutions.
