End Annual Firework Display at The Grove's Tree Lighting Ceremony

End Annual Firework Display at The Grove's Tree Lighting Ceremony
The Issue
As a resident of West Hollywood for over 13 years, I have experienced firsthand the distress that the annual firework display that The Grove's tree lighting ceremony causes. My dogs become terrified and many pet owners, unaware of the firework schedule, suffer when pets flee their homes. This is not an isolated issue - it endangers household pets, disturbs local wildlife and can cause severe panic attacks in trauma survivors and veterans with PTSD.
The American Veterinary Medical Association reports that loud noises like fireworks can not only cause fear and stress in animals but also lead to both physical and emotional harm. Similarly, according to the U.S Department of Veteran Affairs, unexpected loud noises can trigger severe anxiety or flashbacks in people living with PTSD.
Not to mention the highly toxic, heavy metal debris that lands on houses, in yards, and ultimately pollutes our air and water.
It's time we prioritize the wellbeing of our community members - both human and animal - over a brief spectacle. We urge local authorities to revoke the annual firework display permit for The Grove’s tree lighting ceremony.
At a minimum the Grove should be required to notify residents exactly like the LA film commission successfully does through door hangers. But better yet the Grove should get with the times and upgrade to a drone show.
Please sign this petition if you believe that our community deserves peace and proper notification during holiday celebrations without causing undue distress to this entirely residential area.
