As the residents of the Philippines deeply concerned by the rampant abuse and neglect of animals in our nation, we turn our attention to the need for better enforcement of humane treatment and stronger animal welfare laws. Each day, countless animals in the Philippines suffer egregious cruelty, abandoned, physically harmed, and used in illegal activities such as dog fighting and wildlife trafficking. These innocent beings endure unspeakable pain and trauma, left voiceless against the atrocities committed against them. 

In a study by World Animal Protection in 2020, the Philippines scored a meager D out of possible grades A to E, indicating significant weaknesses in our country's animal welfare framework. Additionally, the scarcity of resources and lax enforcement of the existing Animal Welfare Act of 1998 further enable these inhumane practices.

This is not just a fight to protect these animals; it is a fight for the very nature of who we are as a country and as people. The treatment of animals is a reflection of our societal values, and the current situation represents a departure from the compassionate, caring nature of the Filipino people.

We are calling upon the authorities and lawmakers in the Philippines to take decisive action against this urgent issue. We demand the strict enforcement of existing animal welfare laws, augmenting the resources dedicated to this cause, and strengthening the legislation to provide stronger punishments for those found guilty of animal abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
