“Justice is blind” usually means that the legal system is objective and unbiased. In the aftermath of the recent poisoning of at least five Saranda street dogs on March 6, 2024, blind justice has meant, so far, looking the other way and doing nothing.
Bashkia — local government — was quick to condemn the poisonings and issued this statement on March 7:
Law enforcement will be upon anyone who acts in such a malicious way⛔️
Yet on March 8, when an animal advocate found a dead cat and hot dogs laced with poison on a city street, three Saranda police officers arrived on the scene to say investigation was “not our job.”
Bashkia now has a formal complaint on its desk. We are waiting and watching for someone — anyone — in city government to take responsibility and action.
