Encourage The Toronto Blue Jays to Collaborate with Indigenous Artists

The Issue

Growing up I have always been a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. However, it is disheartening to see that while they celebrate various themes through their merchandise like t-shirts, hats and jerseys, there is a glaring omission - recognition of the Indigenous Peoples and the land on which they play.

The Toronto Blue Jays play their home games at Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto. This area is part of the traditional territory of many First Nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, Anishinaabe, Chippewa, Haudenosaunee and Wendat peoples. It's important to acknowledge this fact as it helps us remember our shared history and responsibilities towards these lands (source: City of Toronto).

This petition calls for The Toronto Blue Jays to collaborate with Indigenous artists in creating special edition 'Tkaronto Blue Jays' merchandise that acknowledges they play on Indigenous Land. This would not only be a step towards recognizing and respecting Indigenous heritage but also provide an opportunity for fans to learn about these Indigenous cultures.

By doing so we can foster greater understanding between different communities while also supporting local indigenous artists. Let's urge The Toronto Blue Jays to take this step forward in promoting inclusivity within sports culture.

Please sign this petition if you believe in celebrating diversity and acknowledging our shared histories on this land.
