In case you missed it, Townsville had a Mayoral by-election on November 15th where disgraced former mayor Troy Thompson (Ex-One Nation) stepped down to re contest, except this time his vote evaporated from 45% down to 5% as for the winner, outgoing Hinchinbrook MP Nic Dametto (KAP) has won the race with a primary of >60% meanwhile the acting mayor came distant 2nd with at least 10% of 1st preferences. 
As surprising as it is this is no fluke,

back in late September this year Independent candidate for Dickson [Ellie Smith] ran for the vacant council seat in Moreton Bay’s 11th Division winning the seat over the Independent LNP Candidate 2 votes to 1.

it is no coincidence, it’s strategic & Tactical, with the right high profile candidate which Nicole Johnston is that the LNP whether it be Adrian Schrinner now or Fiona Cunningham later can be voted out of the Mayors seat.
