Encourage Taxi Drivers to Commit to Local Firms Over Uber and Bolt

Encourage Taxi Drivers to Commit to Local Firms Over Uber and Bolt
The Issue
I, John Hirst like many others, depend on taxis for everyday transportation. Lately, trouble arises with my bookings being cancelled as drivers show a growing preference for platforms like Uber and Bolt over local firms. This shift is not just inconvenient for customers like me who suffer from unpredictable service, but also poses a threat to the viability of local taxi businesses.
A study by the University of Oxford revealed that there are approximately 40,000 taxi drivers in London, most of whom switch between Uber, Bolt, and other local taxi services (Sainato, 2019). This fluidity may provide the drivers with flexibility, but it leaves passengers in a lurch and local taxi businesses struggling for driver commitment.
For the sake of reliable service to passengers and the sustenance of our local economy, we need local councils to take action. We call on them to provide incentives and encouragement for licensed taxi drivers to align themselves with local taxi firms rather than choosing platforms like Uber or Bolt.
This isn't just about mismanaged time, but preserving the integrity of our local taxi industry and ensuring reliable transportation for everyone who depends on it. Sign the petition to ask your local council to take action. Support local over global, now and for the future.
