Enact the "Psychological Safety Act" to Protect Employees' Well-being in the UK

The Issue

As a victim of workplace bullying that caused significant distress and health issues, I am firmly convinced that stronger laws to protect employees in the UK are urgently needed. It is currently possible for employers and other staff members to bully coworkers, creating a hostile work environment that often leads to psychological harm. This kind of behaviour is not only inhumane, but it has wide-reaching consequences, affecting victims' work output, health and livelihood.

In my personal experience, I suffered abuse that led to prolonged sick leave and even more stress when subjected to unsupportive performance improvement plans. Moreover, this is not an isolated incident. Across the UK, countless people are enduring similar ordeals every single day.

This lack of safeguards against such harmful practices in our workplaces must change. To that end, we propose the introduction of a new law, possibly titled as "The Psychological Safety Act" or a "Healthy Work Place Bill". This legislation will classify psychological harm at work as a form of abusive conduct, making it illegal. Its primary goal will be to ensure the mental well-being of every employee in the UK.

No person should live in fear of bullying or mistreatment in their place of work. It's time for us to raise our voices against this silent epidemic. We urge the UK government to hold employers accountable for the psychological safety of their workers. Please join us in our fight to establish annual checks and stronger penalties against workplace bullying. Sign the petition for the "Psychological Safety Act" to end the culture of fear and hostility in UK workplaces.
