Enact the “Keep it to Yourself” Law to Criminalize Acts of Racism, Bigotry, and Bias

The Issue

This plea comes from a place of personal pain and consistent encounters with needless hostility. The experiences of my trans friends, people of color, the LGBTQ community, people of a faith other than the beliefs of one certain group have painted a distressing picture of hatred and bigotry, often encouraged by those in power. Fear, discrimination, and violence have become an eerily regular part of all our lives, and it's time for significant change.

How many more people who simply want to live their true authentic life experience have to die simply because they don’t fit into what is considered “normal”, especially when it is backed by Scientific and Psychiatric research? Many of these people are shining examples of the lessons taught by Jesus, Mohammed, Mother Theresa, Ghandi, Buddha, Princess Diana. Harvey Milk, Martin Luther King and other icons, many shot down for trying to bring about equality.

I urge our lawmakers to consider the enactment of the “Keep it to Yourself” law, making acts of racism, bigotry, and bias not just socially unacceptable but legally punishable, bordering on what can be characterized as terrorism. In the last decade alone, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reported an alarming increase in hate crimes based on race, religion, and sexual orientation in the United States (FBI, 2020). This noticeable surge in prejudiced behavior is an urgent call to action that we must answer.

This law would provide much-needed legal consequences to the current culture of intolerance, forcing individuals to reconsider their actions and acknowledge the harmful impact of their biases. The justice system can and should be used as a tool to not only enforce law and order but also to bring about social change and ensure equality and fairness for all individuals.

It's time we take a powerful stand against racism, bigotry, and bias. This would not only be a commitment to equitability but also a pledge to the basic principles of humanity and compassion. Please, sign this petition and let's make echo our united stand against hatred all the way to the halls of legislation. Our communal voice can trigger the change necessary to ensure that everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

Look, you’re free to have your opinions and we all judge one another. Just keep it to yourself and let it go!
