Enact Laws Against Ostracisation in Kerala

The Issue

I am Syam Sneh K S, a student from Kerala, and I write this petition with a heavy heart and a resolve for change. In my journey through academia, I have faced repeated instances of ostracisation, exclusion, and social isolation from peers and faculty. This is not just my ordeal — it is a shared struggle among many students who belong to Scheduled Castes (SC), ST and neurodivergent backgrounds. These individuals suffer in silence as they endure being isolated, mocked, or treated with undue suspicion. Ostracisation can exist in different types like interpersonal and group wise.

What makes this matter even graver is the absence of specific legal provisions in India to protect individuals from such social alienation. The trauma and psychological damage from exclusionary practices are often dismissed as mere 'personal issues,' even though their impact is as severe as physical harm. The lack of legislative recourse leaves countless affected individuals helpless and vulnerable to persistent discrimination.

The psychological toll of being ostracised nearly kills me every day. It is imperative that we shed light on this pervasive issue and urge our legislators to take immediate action. By establishing laws against ostracisation, we can create an inclusive environment in educational institutions and beyond.

I call upon the government of India and the legislative bodies in Kerala to acknowledge and address this social malaise. We need comprehensive legislation that not only recognizes ostracisation as a punishable act but also provides avenues for victims to seek justice and rebuild their lives.

Please stand with me and support this crucial change. Sign this petition to advocate for the protection and dignity of every individual, enabling a society where everyone is treated with respect and equality.
