VICTORY! Opening day for “clean” adoption reform is here—Wednesday January 15th! Go to the New York State DOH or NYC DOH pages as appropriate! Join us at the Capitol Building in Albany—today 1/15 at 11am EST (details below)!
IMPORTANT LINKS AND INFO:
1. NYS DOH (for adoptions outside the five boroughs of NYC). You can still review the recent FAQ. For NYS DOH applications, you may apply online, by mail or in person.
a. Online applications will be processed quickest! We have been advised: “Adoptees are encouraged to request their birth certificate by applying online starting January 15, as this is the most efficient way to apply and will result in faster issuance of the birth certificate. Paper applications will also be accepted by mail and in person. All certificates will be issued via regular mail; no certificates will be issued in person or via email.”
2. NYC DOH (for adoptions within the five boroughs of NYC). Scroll down to the section called “Order a Pre-adoption Birth Certificate.” FAQ is in this section and the pdf form to apply by mail is available. For NYS DOH applications, you may apply by postal mail only at this time. Online and in person application will be possible later this year.
3. No same day service: As alluded to above in #2, the NYS DOH, NYC DOH, and local registrars, will accept applications, but not issue original birth certificates on the same day, even if you elect to physically bring applications to them (walk in delivery of applications available now for NYS DOH / adoptions but not NYC DOH / adoptions).
