Friends of “CLEAN” adoption reform,
We hope this finds you well. As you know, our fourth petition delivery to key officials in Albany, in December, was designed to remind them that our appeal for “clean” adoption reform continues.
Our goal remains simple: Genuine human and civil rights reform so all adoptees can gain unrestricted access to original birth certificates, as in nine other states.
So far, in the 2017 – 2018 session, we can report the following:
ASSEMBLY AND SENATE BILL REMAINS UNACCEPTABLE (A5036 / S4845):
• ASSEMBLY:
o On 2/6, David Weprin reintroduced last year’s bill which fails to honor adoptee human and civil rights
o Bill number: A5036 (formerly A2901C)
• SENATE:
o Yesterday, 3/3, Senator Andrew Lanza reintroduced a “same as” to A5036
o Bill number: S4845 (formerly S5964B)
WHAT IS HAPENNING NOW:
• ASSEMBLY:
o Our meetings continue
o Met petition recipient / Health Committee Chair Richard Gottfried (12/3)
o Petition delivery #5 to Aileen Gunther (meeting 2/24)
• SENATE:
o Our meetings continue
o Noting that S4845 again has ZERO cosponsors!
BOTTOM LINE: WE ARE JUST GETTING WARMED UP!
• Our appeal for “clean” reform continues!
• We remain optimistic that “clean” reform can return and advance!
• We thank you, 2,000+ strong, for your voices and superb comments!
• Please keep sharing for new supporters!
• We will update you again soon as the legislature convenes until June 21st
It is time, right now, for Albany to dismiss the “debunked” arguments as New York adoptees deserve to get adoption reform right the first time!
Onward.
Tim, Doris—and, now, Jennifer too.
Note from Tim Monti-Wohlpart and Doris Bertocci: We thank New York activist, and adoptee, Jennifer Sarro for her outstanding support and collaboration.
