Enable Unhindered Importation of Cars from Europe to Canada

Enable Unhindered Importation of Cars from Europe to Canada
The Issue
My fellow Canadians and I find ourselves in a predicament. Recent threats of unjust tariffs and rhetoric about annexation from our neighbors in the South have made us seek alternatives for automobile purchases. We want to freely buy cars from sources that do not directly contribute to these threats and strifes, and Europe seems to be an attractive option.
However, stringent regulatory barriers are currently preventing us from importing cars from Europe, hindering our freedom of choice, and forcing us to support an economy whose leadership threatens our sovereignty. In 2019, Canada imported approximately 160,000 passenger vehicles, but only a small fraction of these were from Europe due to restrictive import rules. These numbers are from Stats Canada (2019).
By letting Canadians import cars freely from Europe, we can have a larger variety of automobile choices, while putting competitive pressure on American automakers to dissuade unjust trade practices. This could also positively affect market prices due to the increased competition, providing tangible benefits to Canadian consumers.
We implore the Canadian government to ease restrictions and facilitate the importation of automobiles from Europe. This action will not only allow Canadians to express their economic freedom but also help to add more international competition within our local markets. We do not want our purchasing decisions to unknowingly support unfair trade practices, and this petition could be the first step to changing that.
Please stand with us in this battle for consumer choice and economic fairness. Sign this petition to persuade the government to bring down the barriers inhibiting the import of European cars to Canada.
