The Issue

As a single mother of two children, my life is a balancing act between taking care of my kids and trying to maintain my own health. Unfortunately, dental care has become an unaffordable luxury. I have nine teeth that are decaying and I cannot afford to fix or even have them removed. This isn't just my problem. Many people in Alabama are struggling with inadequate dental care.

Dental health is an essential part of overall health and well-being, yet it remains inaccessible for many of Alabama's population. Current Medicaid plans and other insurance policies fall short, offering no coverage for necessary dental treatments. This neglect in basic healthcare rights affects our daily lives, physical health, and overall dignity as human beings.

Research by the Alabama Department of Public Health shows that a substantial percentage of adults in Alabama suffer from untreated tooth decay and other oral health issues. Poor dental health is linked to chronic illnesses, such as heart disease and diabetes, which can further exacerbate our community's health crisis.

Alabama's healthcare system must rise to meet the basic needs of its citizens. Dental care should be treated as a right, not a privilege. Including dental coverage in Medicaid and expanding insurance plans to cover dental treatments is a step towards a healthier future for all.

It's time for our legislators to act and ensure that everyone in Alabama has access to affordable dental care. The well-being of our community depends on it. By signing this petition, you are urging Alabama lawmakers to prioritize comprehensive dental care in Medicaid and insurance covers. Help us bring about this critical change by raising your voice and signing this petition today.
