Enable Google Play Merchant Registration for Morocco 🇲🇦
Le problème
Moroccan developers can build apps, publish them on Google Play, and reach users around the world.
But when it comes time to turn that work into a sustainable business, we face a major barrier:
Google Play Merchant Registration is still not available in Morocco.
According to Google's official list of supported locations, Morocco supports Google Play Developer Registration, but not Merchant Registration.
This creates a frustrating situation for Moroccan developers.
A developer can spend months learning, designing, coding, testing, fixing bugs, and preparing an app for release. The app can be successfully published on Google Play, but when it is time to monetize that work through paid apps, in-app purchases, premium features, or subscriptions, the lack of Merchant Registration becomes a major obstacle.
For independent developers and small teams, this is not a minor issue. Our apps often represent months or years of personal work, time, and investment. Monetization can be what allows a project to continue growing instead of being abandoned.
What makes the situation harder to understand is that Google Play Merchant Registration is already available in neighboring countries such as Algeria, Tunisia, and Mauritania.
Google's official list also includes much smaller countries and territories around the world, including the Marshall Islands and American Samoa.
Yet Morocco remains listed as:
Developer Registration: ✔ Supported
Merchant Registration: ✘ Not supported
We are not asking for special treatment.
We are asking for Moroccan developers to have a clear and official path to monetize their work through the same platform that already allows us to register, build, and publish our apps.
Our request to Google is simple:
1. Enable Google Play Merchant Registration for Morocco.
2. Give eligible Moroccan developers access to the standard Google Play monetization infrastructure for paid apps, in-app purchases, and subscriptions.
3. If Merchant Registration cannot currently be enabled in Morocco, clearly explain what specific requirements or obstacles are preventing Morocco from being supported and what needs to happen for this to change.
Moroccan developers should not have to relocate or search for complicated foreign arrangements simply to access the standard monetization tools available to developers in supported countries.
We want to build from Morocco.
We want to grow from Morocco.
And we want the opportunity to turn our work into sustainable businesses from Morocco.
If you are a Moroccan developer, entrepreneur, student, technology professional, or simply support equal opportunities for Moroccan creators, please sign and share this petition.
