I have friends who have been continuously trying to register for the Overseas Registration Exam for Dentists. For over three years, they have made sacrifices, putting important aspects of their life aside just to book this exam. Their struggle is attributable to the current system of registration, which sadly, relies predominately on luck instead of qualifications or merits.

This speaks volumes about the barriers that overseas dental professionals face as they attempt to register for these exams. There are approximately 39,000 registered dentists in the UK, of which close to 16% (6,000) are graduates from international dental schools based on statistics of 2019. But, this number could be undoubtedly higher if the current exam registration system wasn’t so strenuous on overseas professionals.

It's crucial to tear down this barrier to give these professionals fair access and opportunities. Let's level the proverbial playing field and ensure all deserving dentists get a chance to register for the Overseas Registration Exam. We believe that everyone should have equal opportunities to serve and contribute in their professional capacity. This is critical not only for the individuals involved but also for the continual improvement and diversification of UK’s dental care standards.
