Enable Direct Democracy through Federally Provided Cellphones

Enable Direct Democracy through Federally Provided Cellphones

The Issue

As someone deeply concerned with the influence that SUPER PACs and lobbyists have on our United States government, I call on our officials to reconsider the way we vote and make decisions. I firmly believe in a true democracy where every citizen has a direct say in decisions that impact us all, and not just a small group of elected officials. I propose an innovative solution where we, the citizens, are able to cast our votes on measures and decisions directly using federally provided cellphones.

This is not just about convenience; this is about transparency, fairness, and fighting the industrial complex influence, corruption, and oligarchical technocracy pervading our political system. One study found that only 9.8 percent of Americans made contributions to federal candidates, political parties, or political action committees in 2020 (Seattle Times, 2020). This structure gives immense power to a relatively small number of Americans, often the wealthy and powerful.

By enabling direct voting through cellphones, we can bring the process to everyone's fingertips. This will encourage citizens to understand and participate more actively in the policies and decisions that affect them, thereby enhancing our representative democracy. The Federal Communications Commission states that as of 2019, 96.1 percent of Americans have a cellphone (FCC). Our proposal expands on this connectivity to enhance our democratic process.

This is a solution that empowers everyone, puts the decisions back into our hands, and curbs the influence of financial power on politics. Please support our call for enabling direct democracy through federally provided cellphones. Sign this petition today.
