Enable Coeliacs to Serve in All Branches of the Irish Military

The Issue

I, along with many others in Ireland, am a coeliac. We are barred from serving our country in the military due to our condition. This is not only discriminatory but also deprives the military of potential talent and dedication.

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disorder that affects approximately 1% of people worldwide. In Ireland alone, it's estimated that 100,000 people have coeliac disease (Coeliac Society of Ireland). Despite this condition being manageable with a gluten-free diet, we are unjustly excluded from serving in all branches of the Irish military - air corps and navy included.

This policy not only infringes on our rights as citizens but also limits diversity within the armed forces. Other militaries around the world have made accommodations for service members with dietary restrictions or medical conditions without compromising their operational effectiveness.

We urge you to reconsider this outdated policy and allow individuals with coeliac disease to serve their country proudly like any other citizen. Sign this petition today and stand up for equal opportunities for all Irish citizens regardless of their health conditions.

and judging by the Irish army (Irish defence forces) has a low amount of active solders, the more the merrier.

it will make Ireland a safer place.
