Emory University: Allow Early Enrollment for International Students

The Issue

On June 6 2020, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that International Students in the United States whose schools have ruled for online-only classes in the Fall 2020 semester must leave the United States, or may face immigration consequences. Under the new restrictions, students holding F-1 visas will face forceful removal from the country or will be denied entry if they have any more than 1 class online. Emory's hybrid solution has made it difficult for students to find on-campus classes. To this end, we are asking for international students to be allowed to enroll early, to assure they are able to get into the classes that they need.

Emory University has opted for a hybrid solution of in-person and online classes. However, the synchronous class registration times will make it increasingly difficult for international students to find and secure the in-person courses that are necessary to maintain their visa status. F-1 Students are currently being put in a position where they must choose classes based on their immediate physical and mental safety over their education. To this end, we are asking for International Students to be allowed to enroll early, to assure they are able to get into the classes that they need.
