If you have not yet participated in our free postcard campaign to the EU Climate Commissioner Frans Timmermans, you still have the opportunity to do so. Inform the Executive Vice President and Commissioner for Climate Action in the European Commission that climate protection is important to you and that you would like to see the introduction of the CO2 currency ECO as a social and fair alternative to the CO2 tax.

This action is free of charge for you and financed by donations and grants. Just follow the link below and we will do the rest:

Increasing the price is supposed to save the climate?

This attempt has failed miserably!

The current fuel prices* show relentlessly, which costs would come with a CO2 price of 180€/ton permanently on us. But a look at the freeways shows that hardly less is driven. There is a lack of climate-friendly options for action and consumption. To make matters worse, low-income earners are hit disproportionately hard when climate-damaging consumption is made more expensive in order to achieve sufficient emissions reductions as a result. To ease the burden on citizens, various measures are being considered in Germany, such as lowering the value-added tax on energy and fuel, abolishing the EEG levy, increasing the commuter allowance and paying energy subsidies for those entitled to housing benefits. But all these compensatory measures counteract the actual purpose of reducing consumption by making it more expensive.

In Germany we have to reduce our CO2 consumption by 80% (!) to get below 2 tons/p.p./year. This can only be achieved if the industry produces in a climate neutral way. The ECO as a separate emissions price tag could exert this pressure to act and ensure that the transformation processes in the direction of GREEN are initiated. For it is only by mapping the ecological footprint that we are able to compare the climate-harmfulness of products and goods services with each other, so that we can then proactively make a purchasing decision for climate protection.

* 180 € p.ton CO2 corresponds to 18 cents per kg CO2. 1 liter of gasoline emits approx. 2.5 kg CO2. At 180 euros/ton, that's about 45 cents per liter of gasoline in additional costs.
