Improve the Safety of the Manhattanville College Community

Improve the Safety of the Manhattanville College Community
The Issue
Manhattanville College's website states "Your safety is our first priority" yet actions speak louder than words.
As students have come back to campus we have experienced a lack of safety protocols. We students and tuition payers are deserving of our health and safety prioritized.
Here is a list of concerns we have regarding Manhattanville's handling of COVID-19:
- The lack of transparency regarding the number of active cases within the campus community. When COVID-19 cases were on campus in the previous semesters we would be sent an email notifying us of those cases.
- Following an inquiry about the number of active cases and how that would be updated on the dashboard, that dashboard no longer exists on the website. That dashboard was the only remaining piece of transparency when it comes to how many active cases of COVID-19 are on campus.
- There is no surveillance testing occurring which means that there is no data on the number of positive cases. We know that vaccinated individuals are more likely to be asymptomatic or exhibit mild symptoms leading them to unknowingly be transmitting COVID-19.
- There is no HyFlex option. A HyFlex option would allow for those who either don't feel comfortable taking an in-person or feel unwell to attend class virtually. Thus giving an incentive to those who do not feel well to stay out of class as they would not be missing crucial information.
- The filtration within the campuses buildings has not been known. On the college's website it says that the filters were updated in key areas yet, where are these key areas? As well as have these filters been updated to HEPA filters as the CDC recommends?
- The sanitization that is going on within the building is unknown. Are these high-touch surfaces being sanitized frequently?
- A large number of students have been put into small classrooms. Leaving the students with little to no space between each other, as COVID-19 is an airborne virus distancing and filtration are two aspects that help to minimize the spread.
By signing this petition you agree that Manhattanville College has the duty to protect its students' health and safety. This means that you agree weekly surveillance testing should be reintroduced, the dashboard should be made accessible and readily updated, a HyFlex option should be introduced, as well as transparency should be increased by addressing and taking into consideration student concerns such as the ones stated above.
