Julian Assange has been imprisoned for 1846 days

Dear Supporters,

There are only twenty days left until a UK court gives its decision on whether to allow the extradition of Julian Assange to the US for publishing.

We are urgently calling for a mass demonstration outside the Royal Courts of Justice in London on Monday 20th of May as the monumental decision is handed down. A decision is expected on the day and should extradition be allowed moves to initiate his transfer the US could be taken immediately.

Stella Assange will be at court along with WikiLeaks’ Kristinn Hrafnsson and our team to make sure that we provide comprehensive coverage of this historic decision.

Having provided its so-called assurances to the court last month, Stella Assange was in no doubt that the US had provided merely “weasel words...a non-assurance claiming that Julian can only ‘seek to raise’ the First Amendment if extradited”.

Amnesty International, who along with all major human rights and free speech organizations have consistently called for an end to Mr. Assange’s prosecution said: “If extradited to the USA, Assange will be at risk of serious abuse, including prolonged solitary confinement, which would violate the prohibition on torture or other ill-treatment. Dubious diplomatic assurances made by the USA as to his treatment are not worth the paper they are written on, not least because they are not legally binding and are riddled with loopholes”.

Reporters Without Borders’ Rebecca Vincent told reporters after last months hearing that “Even if all these (‘assurances’) are met, we do not believe Julian Assange can have a fair trial”.

For a more detailed overview of the current court actions and US ‘non-assurances’ we recommend the following article “US assurances are full of loopholes, and assure the Wikileaks founder absolutely nothing” https://www.freitag.de/autoren/der-freitag/extradition-of-julian-assange-us-assurances-are-full-of-loopholes

This week on May 3rd World Press Freedom Day will be marked across the globe. Stella Assange will be speaking alongside the International Federation of Journalists' Tim Dawson and journalists Iain Overton and Matt Kennard at the Frontline Club in Paddington for a discussion on press freedom and the threat that Julian’s prosecution holds for all journalists, publishers and the public: Details here: https://assange24.eventbrite.co.uk/

Should the court decide to allow Julian’s extradition on May 20 we must leave people in no doubt that his persecution cannot be allowed to continue. Julian must be allowed to resume his life with his young family who have been robbed of their father simply for his commitment to standing up for the public’s right to know.

Join us on Monday May 20th from 8am, Royal Courts of Justice, London, WC2A 2LL as we stand united and demand that we must Free Assange Now!
