Eliminate the UCAT Admission Test for Existing NHS Health Professionals Pursuing Medicine

Eliminate the UCAT Admission Test for Existing NHS Health Professionals Pursuing Medicine
The Issue
Currently, any individual seeking to study medicine, regardless of their experience or existing qualifications, is required to take the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT). In particular, this applies to existing health professionals working in the National Health Service (NHS), who despite their practical experience and commitment to the field, are mandated to engage in this testing process. It is viewed as a redundant procedure that fails to acknowledge the skills and wisdom garnered from their professional work. Statistics reveal a 14% increase in applicants for medicine from 2020 to 2021 according to Medical Doorway. This shows the immense competition and streneous process existing professionals need to go through. We urge the relevant education and health authorities to re-evaluate this requirement. By eliminating the UCAT for existing health professionals in the NHS we can streamline their progression into further medical training, make better use of their valuable insights and experiences, and continue to ensure the highest standards of healthcare in the UK. This petition asks for your support in creating a fairer pathway to medicine. Please add your signature to appeal against the UCAT requirement.
