Eliminate the Teaching of Root Words in Schools

Eliminate the Teaching of Root Words in Schools
The Issue
Our story begins from a place of personal frustration. Both I and my like-minded peers find the practice of teaching root words in schools entirely uninteresting and mind-numbing. Root words, while perhaps foundational to understanding language, are taught in a manner that disconnects students from the joy of learning. Many students find the lessons dull, and this attitude can lead to a broader dislike of language studies. A Gallup poll showed that engagement in school dips significantly when students find the topic uninteresting or irrelevant (Gallup, 2019).
While we understand that there are traditional aspects of education that seem necessary to maintain, we strongly believe that the current approach to teaching root words is doing more harm than good. There's an urgent need to revamp our language curriculum to engage students better and make learning more appealing and relevant. We call upon curriculum developers, teachers, and education ministers to critically review this issue. A shift to context-based language teaching techniques that focus on usage, applicability, and relevance could go a long way in enhancing students' interest in language studies.
Sign the petition for a better, more engaging language education. Make our schools places where learning is enjoyed, not endured.
