Eliminate All Unused Trolley Infrastructure in Philadelphia
The Issue
As a concerned citizen, I've noticed that despite the commendable efforts of SEPTA's trolley modernization program, there are still unused trolley tracks and wires scattered throughout Philadelphia. These remnants of a bygone era not only mar the cityscape but also create discomfort for drivers and cyclists who have to navigate around them.
Philadelphia has always been at the forefront of urban development and innovation. Yet, these outdated infrastructures are holding us back. According to data from the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), cities that invest in public transportation see an average economic return of $4 for every $1 invested. By removing these unused tracks and wires, we can pave the way for more efficient transportation systems that will benefit all residents.
Moreover, as per reports from The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, bike commuting increased by 79% between 2000-2017 in our city. It is crucial to ensure their safety by removing any potential hazards such as these unused tracks.
While I may not be a resident of Philadelphia myself, this issue is personal to me because I believe everyone deserves safe and comfortable commutes without having to worry about unnecessary obstacles on their paths.
Let's urge SEPTA and our local government officials to prioritize this issue - remove all remaining unused trolley infrastructure in Philadelphia! Please sign this petition today!
