The paper petitions on Berwick Street Market are going well and it is clear that everyone we speak to is seriously concerned about the privatisation and the loss or complete change in character of thieir community asset.
We are meeting people (or we were until Walker's Court was closed this morning completely wiping out trade with people on their way to work) who have been using the market since they were 12, some who were born here but mostly Soho lovers who cannot bear the scale of the changes they are are witnessing and who are wondering if Soho has lost its voice. It hasn't! We're just all so busy doing the things that make Soho great, that the developments that wrecking Soho go unnoticed until its too late.
If you are as concerned as we are you may want to attend the Soho Neighbourhood Forum AGM in early July (link below) to find out what's going on and let the Soho Steering Group know what you want to do about it.
The Steering group is a locally elected body whose job it is to gather the thoughts of the community and help steer them into influencing Planning for the benefit of the Soho Community.
Meanwhile you could just ask a few fellow travelers to sign our petition. The petition is invaluable in demonstrating people do care about Berwick Street Market. One more push?
