Alief ISD’s Superintendent of Human Resources, Elizabeth Veloz-Powell stated during this months board meeting that Alief ISD is going to attend a job fair in Florida in an effort to seek applicants whom are displaced from the natural disasters in Puerto Rico and whom are now residing in Florida. The districts rational is that AISD intends to seek qualified educators displaced from Puerto Rico whom speak Spanish in order to offer them employment in Alief as bilingual educators. This has got to be the most absurd thing that I have heard out of the mouth of an “educated person” calling themselves a doctor of anything, let alone a doctor of education. Dr. Powell, Alief ISD does not need to pay for the summer vacation of district administrators to travel ALL THE WAY to Florida to seek Spanish speaking people or Spanish speaking educators. I do believe Houston has more than enough Spanish speakers here that can sufficiently do the desired jobs. Cancel those flight plans, hotel fees, rental fees, and per diem cost for the administrators vacation trip disguised as a job fair in Florida, and put that money towards the districts 3 million dollar deficient. A doctoral degree in education obviously is not as prestigious as a doctoral degree in common sense. #DoctorPowell #TrustButVerify #AliefProud #AliefTaxPayer #AliefParent
