Publish Charlie Hebdo's Mohammed cartoons in solidarity with the victims of censorship and violence

The Issue

In the wake of the massacre of the Charlie Hebdo journalists, we express our solidarity with the victims of intolerance, violence, censorship and religious fundamentalism. While killing journalists and police officers, the assailants were recorded shouting that they have "avenged the prophet Mohammed".

The journalists at Charlie Hebdo have paid with their lives for a standing up against all attempts to bully them into complying with religious blasphemy norms. As in previous episodes, newspapers have already started to blur or cut out those images in the reporting of the events.

The fight against intolerance requires breaking the self-reinforcing cycle of blasphemy taboos and censorship.

We call on all journalists around the world to publish the full and uncensored cartoons of Charlie Hebdo's "La vie de Mahomet" as an act of solidarity with those who have tragically paid with their lives for defending the human right to free expression.

Any act of censorship of the cartoons for which the Charlie Hebdo journalists have paid with their lives is another victory for the perpetrators and their aims to intimidate people into silence.

Let's not give the murderers the satisfaction that they have achieved their goals.
