700 EXTRA COMMUTER CAR SPACES FOR EDMONDSON PARK STATION

The number of parking spaces available for customers at Edmondson Park train station will triple under a NSW Liberals & Nationals Government.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced $40 million will be invested to deliver up to 700 additional commuter car spaces at the station by mid-2020.

“These 700 car spaces are on top of the 400 parking spots already available,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“This means once complete there will be 1100 spaces available for customers at Edmondson Park station.

“As a Government we are doing all we can to encourage people to use public transport and extra car spaces give commuters a good reason to do so.”

Member for Holsworthy Melanie Gibbons said the car park addresses an increasing demand for parking in the area from train customers.

“When we built the new South West Rail Link in 2015 we delivered hundreds of free car spaces, but customers are telling us they need more and we have listened,” Ms Gibbons said.

“The demand for more parking in this area has been increasing so I’m glad our Government is able to deliver this solution for my community.”

Final planning work for the new car park, including community consultation, will start in the next few months with construction set to commence this year.

In response to the announcement by the Premier Gladys Berejiklian that the Liberal Party will commit $40 million to the construction of 700 additional Car Parking Spaces at Edmondson Park Station.

MY RESPONSE TO THE MEDIA ANNOUNCEMENT

I welcome the announcement made for the construction of aMulti Level Carpark at Edmondson Park Station after personally Lobbying the NSW Government and the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Mr Andrew Constance for over 10 months to date.

The Credit for this outcome should go to the residents who signed both the petitions online and in hardcopy and also to Anoulack Chanthivong MP, Anne Stanley MP and the Local Papers for highlighting the problems over the last three years (since 2016).

This result is due to the support of residents and Commuters who took the time and effort to sign not just one online petition currently  over 7100 signatures but also 5 other individual hard copy Paper Petitions that where lodged in Parliament with a total of over 2750 signatures.

It is a win for People Power using Petitions that put the pressure on the Government and Minister for Transport and Infrastructure.

Five (5) Car Parking Crisis Petitions were lodged via 5 Local MP's in the 5 different electorates affected being Holsworthy, Macquarie fields, Camden, Mulgoa and Liverpool. Assistance was provided by all MP's in these electorates. I say Thank you to all of them.

See the Link for details of the Petitions

It's a positive outcome that the NSW State Government has finally heard the Voices of Residents and Commuters from South West Sydney after so long.

The Car parking Crisis Campaign will continue as there is still more to be done, like ensuring that this will meet demand and also getting a Commitment for a Multi Level Car Park at Leppington Station.

MORE WORK TO BE DONE

AS Socrates Bartolo has pointed out in a facebook post Leppington is meant to be the new epicentre before getting to Badgery's Creek. So we will need far more car spots at Leppington Train Station than at Edmonson Park. There are DAs already in place for huge apartment buildings numbering over 600 apartments. Not all will be parking within the building. Many will be parking their cars at the train station car parks. Where is the announcement covering the Leppington Train Station car park? We already have some 400 to 500 cars parked on the road there. And will Gladys match Labor and commit to extending the train line from Leppington to Badgerys Creek and from Macarthur to Badgerys Creek before 2026. All those extra stations and car parks will be able to help better manage with the on coming population explosion in the south west. South West Creek is to have 30000 homes..... something Gladys announced mid to late last year. Catherine fields, Emerald Hills, Gregory Hills, The Hermitage, Harrington Grove and Harrington Park, The Crest, Arcadia Hills, Cobbitty, Camden, Narellan, Willowdale, Middleton Grange, Denham Court, West Hoxton, Horningsea Park, Prestons, Casula, Oran Park, Austral, Leppington, Kemps Creek and Rossmore. My god and 700 extra spots is all they can offer to serve the population explosion in all those suburbs. Carnes Hill and people are even coming as far as Warwick Farm to use the T2 and T8 lines.

At Edmondson Park where the number of new dwellings in the area is closer to 10,000 and that doesn't take into account the proposed increase of another 2800 Units by Landcom.

I am concerned that this increase will not be enough to cope with future demand either. We need to ensure this project gets done properly this time around to avoid problems again in a couple of years time.

Therefore the Car Parking Crisis Campaign will continue as there is still more to be done, like ensuring that this will proposed increase will meet demand and also getting a Commitment from the Liberal Party for a Multi Level Car Park at Leppington Station.
