We requested and have received a copy of the Waikoloa HVC’s newly adopted policy regarding their TNRM program for the cat communities living on their properties. We are satisfied that the programs on these properties are in the best interest for the cats. Again, we thank HVC Management for their commitment to implementing a program of humane treatment for the cats. We will continue to monitor and report on the progress of the TNRM programs through owners, local contacts and our Facebook page www.facebook.com/hgvccats/.
Unfortunately, there is a new threat to the cat communities living on all islands of Hawaii. The Department of Land and Natural Resources has proposed an administrative rule to ban feeding of feral cats at all harbors within Hawaii and feeders will be fined and possibly even jailed. Additionally TNR efforts will not be allowed. If you want to help, please submit written testimony in opposition to the proposed rules by email to dlnr.harreview@hawaii.gov by July 29 and include “Title 13-232 HAR” in the subject line. For more information, please contact Advocats at www.advocatshawaii.org or check our Facebook page.
Again, our thanks to all who supported our efforts for together we have made a difference!
