The borough of Ebensburg will no longer sponsor any of the community events in town. Instead, events will be sponsored by the Mainstreet Partnership or another civic organization. It is an issue of first amendment rights for government to create rules that would prohibit the display the Confederate flag. However, a corporate body independent of borough government is cabable of sponsoring and managing its own events, and is free to develop and enforce its own rules without government assistance. Inclusive Ebensburg is a citizen group that has formed as a result of this issue to promote diversity throughout the Central Cambira region. Council is creating a diversity committee that will be included in Council's agenda to provide updates to Council on diversity-related activities and to serve as a primary liason between the Borough and groups such as Inclusive Ebensburg. The success that has occured these past two months is undoubtedly due to this petition's numbers. There IS strength in numbers! It was also encouraging to know that I did not stand alone in my beliefs. Thank you for your support!
