This week I hosted a government roundtable titled “Eating disorders: finding solutions to a national crisis”

Not only was there cross party support, but we had a range of stakeholders all keen to support this change!

But the real work happens now! The keeping up momentum, the follow up conversations, the direct asks to specific MPs and Ministers!

Over the last 48 hours we have hatched a plan on how to take this forward but the next thing is to make noise about this again! And if you already emailed your local MP asking them to join the roundtable please email them again! We have got to keep emailing, sharing our experiences and asking what they are doing!

It will take you 2 mins.. all you need to do is copy and paste the email please feel free to personalise too!

Together we can end this injustice! Thank you so much for all your support!

Dear

I wanted to get in touch to make you aware of the #DumpTheScales campaign and to ask you directly what you are doing to support those affected by eating disorders? On the 19 May, Hope Virgo along with other campaigners delivered an open letter to Number 10 calling on the government to tackle eating disorder treatments across the country as a matter of urgency (she hasn’t got a reply). On May 20, hundreds of people affected by eating disorders took to the streets of London and marched for their loved ones, those they had lost and future generations calling on the government to join with us to tackle the injustices.

On Wednesday 12 July, Hope Virgo hosted a cross party roundtable where key actions were discussed and finalised to help ensure that eating disorders are tackled as a matter of urgency.

With people as young as 10 dying of eating disorders, people in their 20s being put on palliative care pathways and with 20% of people with an eating disorder dying by suicide, this is an issue that cannot wait.

Eating disorder are serious biological mental illnesses but there has been a lack of funding, high rates of stigma and a huge lack of understanding for decades.

No-one should be condemned to a life of illness, nor should anyone be dying of an eating disorder in 2023.

As my local MP, I want to understand what you are doing to support those affected by eating disorders and what you are doing more specifically to support Hope Virgo's #DumpTheScales campaign?

I look forward to hearing from you

Best wishes

Hope
