Access to Chester Valley Trail

The Issue

In November 2015 a proposed trail network was drafted by Thomas Comitta Associates for East Whiteland Township. The residential area of Spring Mill Farms, the Great Valley M.S. and H.S., and the Saint Gobain property were marked on the draft as priority to gain access to the trail.

Nearly two years later, there have been no improvements to trail access made. What exists currently is a short paved path along Mill Road that has dangerous entry and exit points in blind spots on the road. No shoulder exists along this wooded, hill section of Mill Road. There is a poorly maintained mulch path on the Saint Gobain property, but it is private property. As well, there is a no crossing sign at Mill Road and Rt. 401.

Many students, residents, cyclists, runners, and dog walkers use Mill Road daily to access the trail despite the obvious danger. It's an accident waiting to happen.

We are asking the Board of Supervisors for East Whiteland Township to move forward with the proposed trail network and budget for the priority access areas, such as Spring Mill Farms, in 2018.

Thank you for you consideration!
