Dear Friend of Huntly Park,
A community led café, or should it be a hub? I don't really care what we call it. It ought to be a safe place for all to meet and the tea and coffee should be affordable. The produce should be from our local businesses. It should represent our community's history and its values.
Saving Huntly Park was just the first step. Now it's time to be unashamedly ambitious and really make our area better; the best place to live, work and learn in Scotland. And why not?
East Renfrewshire Council is inviting bids for funding for community projects. I am looking at ways in which this can be used to deliver my long standing campaign to develop Huntly Park pavilion into a community led café and obtain all weather fitness equipment in the park (perhaps that is already on its way - watch this space!). There is scope to fund projects in all of our local parks in Giffnock and Thornliebank. The pavilion at Woodfarm Playing Fields is crying out for attention too. Our pavilions deserve to be at the heart of our community. We just need vision, funding and then delivery.
We saved Huntly Park - be under no doubt that was due to our community pressure. We can do so much more by continuing to act together as one. Please let me know if you can support this project (and please do share widely).
I live here because I love the place. If you feel the same, I guarantee that we can do work together to make Giffnock and Thornliebank that much better.
