Dear Friend of Huntly Park,
I am very pleased to have been appointed as a member of Giffnock Community Council. As a lifelong Giffnock resident (barring my service in the RAF), that is a real privilege.
The first job of a community councillor is to listen. I have been doing that through this petition and the many messages of support received. I hear the message loud and clear: our community opposes building on Huntly Park!
But our petition calls for more than preserving our park for future generations. We seek the development of the pavilion into a community led café. We want fitness equipment. We want to see more wild flowers. When you think about it, we are not asking for much. Our proposals will enhance the park, promote small local businesses and increase our quality of life. Our proposals will be good for the environment.
My first task as a community councillor will be to make my new colleagues aware of what you are calling for. I intend to make our calls a reality. None of this is beyond us - we simply need vision and respectful, positive perseverance.
