Our petition is now 182 signatures strong. We have a lot of parent support for understanding the safety measures our school has in place, and for the consideration of additional upgrades that can make our school even safer.
We would love to have you join us for two upcoming events in support of this conversation and initiative:
- ZeroEyes Presentation and Q&A Webinar for Parents
- When: October 2nd, 7-8pm
- Where: Virtual
- Why: To provide information about ZeroEyes technology and for parents to have the opportunity to ask questions and raise concerns.
- CSD Board of Directors meeting
- When: October 14th, 6:30pm
- Where: CSD High School Black Box
- Why: To support this initiative in actual numbers in order to show the board that parents have concerns about safety at the school.
What are we asking the board?
- To allow Carter, who is a safety and security expert and team member of Zero Eyes, to conduct a safety assessment of our school alongside our incredible SRO, Officer Mike. He will produce a report that identifies our schools strengths and vulnerabilities. This will be at no cost to the school, and is just volunteer labor for a CSD parent with skills in this area.
- To participate in a demo with the ZeroEyes team, just to be more informed about the technology and its capabilities, and to consider it's potential implementation at the school.
- To establish a School Safety Committee, chaired by our SRO, Officer Mike, and run by parent volunteers, staff, and even high school students with an interest in this field. This committee, at a minimum, can look for funding opportunities for continued upgrades or improvements, as well as produce an annual Safety Report Card to help parents feel more informed.
We understand not every detail about our school's safety can be shared. However, we know that some information can be. In the March 2018 School Board Minutes, in response to the Parkland shooting, $55,000 was allocated for door buzzers, panic button technology, and upgraded security cameras. We want to receive more frequent updates from the school as security is improved.
Lastly, if you've been following along in the CSD Parent Group, you may have seen that there is a sentiment that we don't trust that our school admin team values the safety of our students and staff. None of us would have chosen this school if we did not believe that our leadership absolutely cares. We are communicating that we can leverage additional skills and resources from within our parent community to bring more support to our school.
Thank you for your support of this initiative so far.
