Dear Warren Farm Nature Reserve supporter,
We hope you are sitting down for some INCREDIBLE NATURE POSITIVE NEWS! THANKS TO YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT for our WARREN FARM NATURE RESERVE campaign Ealing Council have now AGREED to give ALL of our rewilded urban meadow and land official LOCAL NATURE RESERVE DESIGNATION! Yes, you read that correctly! TOGETHER, WE DID IT!
Just a few weeks ago our vulnerable wildlife would have been lost forever and now our rare Clovers, Barn Owls, Hedgehogs, Butterflies, Slow-worms, a quarter of London’s breeding Skylark population and so many more will BE SAFEGUARDED, THANKS TO YOU!
To say we are delighted is an understatement! Credit to Ealing Council for taking stock and reversing plans that would have been hugely environmentally damaging. There is of course MUCH WORK TO BE DONE, it’s not going to happen overnight and there are details to secure and discussions to be had. WHAT’S FANTASTIC is that we can now work together on this landmark decision with our supporters, community, and ecological experts to ensure the safeguarding of Ealing’s rare and beloved species. This marks a significant step in London’s environmental conservation!
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? Now there will be official processes to go through including things like drawing up a Management Plan, engagement, removing the dangerous derelict buildings and working closely with Natural England and Ealing Council to make Local Nature Reserve designation OFFICIAL!
We also need to ensure that where sports are now being placed on neighbouring land that they do not negatively impact on our NEW LOCAL NATURE RESERVE! We will need to work out what the 'Buffer Zone' between us looks like. Skylarks won’t nest up against fencing or walls for example, as tall structures create perches for predators. Floodlights would have negative impacts on our birds, amphibians, insects, mammals and plants. Astroturf is future landfill.
This is A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY to set a precedent for other councils up and down the country - this doesn’t just stop with Warren Farm Nature Reserve! We can be ground-breaking in our approach to safeguard and enhance biodiversity for the benefit of future generations who will be living with the consequences of the actions we take today. We extend A MASSIVE HEARTFELT THANK YOU to you our dedicated supporters FOR MOVING THE DIAL IN FAVOUR OF NATURE HERE! Your unwavering commitment and care for our wildlife continues to play a pivotal role in making this further progress possible.
