To my surprise, I received a call from CDOT informing me that NCDOT approved my traffic light request and that it has been added to the list. The only catch is that the list is pretty long and funding is limited, so they are prioritizing based on intersections with the highest number of accidents—which they are measuring on an ongoing basis so the order is subject to change.
