Charity Commission warning to charities on commercial deals

Raymond NobleStoke Hammond, ENG, United Kingdom

We are making progress. I now have meetings arranged with Ian Foy of Age UK and Tony Cocker the CEO of E.ON to discuss the issues. Meanwhile, The Charity Commission has issued a warning to charities over aggressive commercial deals. The warning is issued in a speech today by the commission’s chair, William Shawcross calling on charities to stop “hounding” people. “It cannot be right for vulnerable people, older people, generous people, to be hounded on the telephone, through the letterbox or in the street,” he will say in a speech in Southampton. He warns also of the ethics of commercial deals and calls for a new approach. These are exactly the arguments we have been putting forward to Age UK over their relationship with E.ON. Let's maintain the pressure. Please continue to support and promote our petition. Thank you.
