Hi
Sorry to email you again so soon but I wanted to let you know more about how the Living Streets project may affect the elderly and also businesses. I also wanted to give you more details on the event being held this Wednesday.
Lastly, I want to let you know we are now up to 728 people signing to amend the plan
Many thanks
Dave
While the Living Streets project has many benefits and it is the way European cities and towns are heading (with fewer cars and more active travel), we feel this project is ageist and not democratically just.
Caregivers will have longer times travelling between patients (so less time for patients), GPs making home visits will have longer travelling times. More time in cars means more emissions.
General traffic will have longer road time. Yes - some people may opt to take public transport, to walk or cycle, but not all.
Is Tivoli Road an important route for Dalkey/Sandycove/Glasthule residents to access Monkstown, Blackrock, Booterstown to the city and vice versa?
Are you aware there are plans to create a system that changes this road to two cul de sacs meeting in the middle with no through road (only for cyclists and pedestrians), meaning the current through traffic will have to use Upper Glenageary Road/Roundabout. Where they are about to build a high rise apartment block.
Traffic going East to West can use the coast road (as this will be amended making it all one way going towards Dublin) but traffic going West to East will have more of a challenge.
If this project goes ahead without our suggested amendments, then vehicle traffic at the York Rd/Tivoli Rd junction would have to go
a) left down York Rd, right along Crofton Rd, right up Marine Rd and left on Georges Street and into Glasthule and beyond
Or
b) right past McCormacks on Mounttown Rd, left past Park Point SC, onto an already jammed Glenageary Roundabout, along Glenageary Rd and onto the Killiney Towers Roundabout
Also as part of this Living Streets project parking spaces (67) are being removed at Clarinda Park. While it's a nice idea to restore the park but the sacrifice of these spaces could be detrimental to the businesses at Upper Georges Street and Clarinda Park North (where the bridge Club is)
Also there will be another modal filter (blocked road) at Clarinda Park West/Corrig Road. So traffic coming from Dalkey, Glasthule on Eden Road will have to take a right at Glengara lights, down to the People's Park and left into Clarinda Park off Georges Street. Or straight along from Glasthule onto Georges Street etc.
We are suggesting amendments to this too.
We are a non political group of concerned residents and business owners.
Public Meeting on Wednesday 10th. 8pm, Royal Marine Hotel
"Amend Living Streets" - Chaired by Bobby Kerr.
It's a challenge for every stakeholder affected by this project.
Your elected Cllrs have to vote on this in February in 3 ways -
1 - For
2 - Against
3 - With options
If it's of interest to you, we ask that you read this, attend the meeting if you can, contact your Cllrs, share/discuss.
Please feel free to email them, I have attached their emails below and you can copy and paste it into a single email to send,
