UPDATE: 11th and Rogers Substation

Next Hearing: City Council Meeting Wednesday, August 31 7:30pm City Hall Council Chambers (401 N Morton St) View project history and updates on SubstationSolutions.info Duke is planning on presenting a new proposal at the 8/31 meeting that will include: An 18 foot masonry (brick) wall around all four sides of the substation site. An agreement to sell back the developable land surrounding the substation site for private development after the substation is built An offer to maintain the surrounding property (with possible landscaping by the City) while awaiting private development of the 2-story liner buildings (with first floor retail and second floor office space for start-ups is anticipated) There may be no need for a retention pond, only swales Two, 60 foot tall poles located on the property at 11th and Rogers that will feed transmission lines A 23 foot tall A-frame structure inside the wall of the substation Transmission lines that run along 11th Street to Rogers and south - and from Madison to 14th Street to run east (they will follow existing poles) A tree plot, pedestrian lighting, and a side path on Rogers and 11th Streets to allow for the 12 foot setback that the transmission lines require Report: District 1 City Council Rep. Chris Sturbaum was appointed by the City Council to negotiate with Duke on behalf of the Council and his constituent's in the west side. He has had a series of meetings over the last month with Duke representatives to reach a better solution for the substation planned for the corner of 11th and Rogers Streets. Rep. Sturbaum reports that the Duke representative, Bruce Calloway, has listened and negotiated in good faith. He has been willing to advocate within the company for this unprecedented process. Rep. Sturbaum emphasized and commended the neighborhood advocates saying "This would never have happened without the efforts of the Maple Heights neighborhood and the willingness of City Council members to support and reinforce neighborhood concerns". Details should be finalized at the City Council meeting on August 31st. An agreement is being drawn up now by City legal for the proposal as stated above.
