UPDATE: July 13 City Council Meeting and Alternate Design

The public is invited to attend the July 13th City Council meeting - but it is not "likely" that there will be a final vote at this meeting for the vacation of alleyways to allow Duke Energy to build its substation at 11th and Rogers. The vote may again be postponed so that conversations outside of Council meetings can develop further. City and community representatives are in discussion with Duke about alternate design proposals that will result in a win-win-win, for the community, for the neighborhood, and for Duke in its energy delivery. We are cautiously hopeful that these discussions will bring new solutions to the table. Public comment will be available at the meeting on July 13th. It would be good to encourage all involved to continue to seek out the best solution for all stakeholders. It is a positive sign that conversations are happening and possibly an entirely new proposal will emerge. Let's keep advocating and working with our representatives and encouraging the administration to support these efforts. Attached is an example of an alternate design option for the site. This design requires a full height wall around the substation, border development to engage the street, onsite parking, and a protected view from all sides. A tree plot and wide sidewalk are also incorporated.
