See below, the councils response, before mentioning the petition. So I'm not very hopeful.. But keep signing guys.
I knows signs aren't very effective because people ignore them, but it's better than nothing. Speed humps would be be better, but if council won't even spend a couple hundred dollars on signs then there's no way they would build speed humps :(
Council response:
"Hi Jenna,
Thank you for your enquiry requesting the provision of Ducks Crossing warning signs in Mannering Park.
Similar requests for wildlife signs and ducks crossing signs have previously been considered by Council’s Local Traffic Committee. Council has adopted the Committee’s recommendation that no action be taken to provide wildlife warning signs as various forms of wildlife cross roads at numerous locations on the Central Coast. The Committee considered that the provision of an individual sign would set a precedent for requests for similar signs throughout the area.
Previous attempts to install wildlife or ducks crossing warning signs have met with limited success as motorists tend to become unmindful of their presence over time, particularly in residential areas and especially if the instance of wildlife activity is intermittent.
The provision of this type of signage can also be problematic in terms of ongoing maintenance due to vandalism and theft. Council has provided wildlife warning signs in the past only to have the signs stolen within weeks of installation.
Unfortunately, I cannot convey a more positive response however thank you for bringing this matter to Council’s attention.
Regards
Tash Lear
Traffic Officer"
