The Issue

I live in Dublin 12 in close proximity to the canal and canal banks. They are a fantastic and very loved resource, even more so since lock-down when for many they were our daily breath of fresh air and contact with nature while our movements were restricted.

Unfortunately they were, and still are a resource that is not accessible without considerable risk to pedestrians due to the lack of infrastructure in place. The Rialto Bridge is without any pedestrian crossing, while Suir Rd Bridge, Dolphins Barn Bridge and Sally's Bridge all have incomplete/partial (two/three point) pedestrian crossing light systems in place.

This lack of safe crossing for pedestrians in this stretch of the canal mean we cannot access our local schools, GAA clubs, village and businesses without risk.

I have reached out to Dublin City Council (DCC) about this issue, but I know I am not the only one frustrated with the situation. Please sign this petition and help raise awareness with our local governement on the urgent need to provide better infrastructure for pedestrians in our locality.
