To mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Bobby Sands, Irish Republicans in Dublin renamed Merrion Road which is the location of the British Embassy to Bobby Sands Street.

This was done not just to remember the great Irish Revolutionary Bobby Sands but also to highlight the fact that there is no street named after Bobby Sands in Ireland despite streets and boulevards named after him around the world.

In June 2021 it was decided to set up an independent committee in Dublin to campaign for a street to be named after Bobby Sands in Ireland's capital city in time for the 50th anniversary of his death.
