Stand in solidarity with us this Sunday at Speakers' Corner!
Dec 6, 2017 — We have hit 3.3K signatures, and are humbled at the show of support for Jolovan and other activists, whom, as some of you may have heard, were being called up for investigations and served warnings over the past few days.
In the last update we asked you to write to the Prime Minister and your representatives as a way to let officials know of the support behind Jolovan. Today, we are taking the next step and are asking you to join us for an event of song, poetry, and passages for Jolovan this Sunday, 10 December, 4 - 5PM, at Speakers’ Corner. This Sunday marks Human Rights Day, and we feel there is no better time to express our solidarity with Jolovan and in speaking up for our civil liberties, which are being clamped down upon. As a matter of fact, it will also be 3 days before Jolovan’s Pre-Trial Conference on 13 December.
We will be joined by local poets Ng Yi Sheng and Stephanie Dogfoot, local actress Neo Swee Lin, fellow activist Seelan Palay, and several of us from The Young Catalysts will be reading a poem, or singing a few songs, all in the name of solidarity. You will also be able to write your messages of support for Jolovan on a large piece of white cloth, kindly provided by local NGO Function 8.
As we’ve said in our previous update, the key to change is in bringing people together, and this Sunday we will be doing just that, literally. We are looking forward to it. See you there!
