The Issue

Brandon Bradshaw’s artwork has always brought joy and vibrancy to Sioux City. Though I haven't seen Brandon in many years, I’ve always appreciated his creative spirit and his sincere commitment to beautifying our community. His recent project of painting manhole covers as flowers was yet another example of his efforts to make Siouxland a better place to live.

Unfortunately, Brandon now faces charges for this artistic endeavor simply because he did not have a permit. While we acknowledge that regulations are important, it is crucial to recognize the positive impact that his work has had on our community and find a way forward that supports Brandon's artistic vision instead of punishing him.

It is distressing that enhancing the aesthetic value of our city is being met with such undue consequences, especially when one considers that jaywalking, a common minor infraction, is also technically a crime yet often overlooked.

As a community, we should be encouraging our local talent and leveraging it to create a more delightful environment for all residents. By dropping these charges against Brandon, we make a statement that Sioux City values the contribution of its local artists. Furthermore, we urge the city to provide him with the necessary permits to continue his endeavor lawfully.

Let us rally together to show our support for Brandon and his art, and make it known that this community stands behind those who strive to enrich and enliven our surroundings. Please sign this petition to drop the charges against Brandon Bradshaw and allow him to continue his work with the proper permits. Together, we can ensure Sioux City remains a place where creativity is celebrated, not penalized.
