The Issue

Whereas, Ron Paul was the 1988 Libertarian nominee for President of the United States, and is a lifetime member of the Libertarian Party.

Whereas, Ron Paul's 2008 and 2012 campaigns for President of the United States were enthusiastically supported by many members of the Libertarian Party.

Whereas, in his twelve terms in the House of Representatives, Ron Paul was a consistent and dedicated defender of the principles which the Libertarian Party advocates.

Whereas, on January 3, 2013, Ron Paul retired from the House of Representatives, and has also retired from active participation in electoral politics as a member of the Republican Party.

Whereas, on January 14, 2015, Ron Paul stated that he would find it "absolutely impossible" to support any of the likely major-party nominees in 2016, expressed his unwavering support for the Libertarian Party's non-aggression pledge, and reaffirmed his desire for Libertarians to achieve a breakthrough against the two party system.

Whereas, Gov. Gary Johnson of New Mexico, who is seeking the 2016 Libertarian nomination for President of the United States, endorsed Ron Paul's campaigns in both the 2008 and 2012 Republican primaries, and received the votes of a majority of Ron Paul supporters in the 2012 general election.

Whereas, the nomination of the Libertarian Party for Vice President of the United States in 2016, would be a fitting and proper tribute to the historic career of Ron Paul, and all he has done for Liberty.

Therefore, we, the undersigned members of the Libertarian Party, ask that former Congressman Ron Paul accept the 2016 nomination of the Libertarian Party for Vice President, alongside Gov. Gary Johnson for President.
