USM: Re-Assess contractual relationships with the Aramark Corporation

The Issue

On April 18, 2016, Carmine Harrell took the University of Southern Mississippi by storm with his blog post for The Odyssey Online. In the post, Mr. Harrell addressed the frustrations that students at the University have been feeling for years. Forced to pay extreme prices for little quality food, college students find themselves at the mercy of a business that simply does not put them first.

As a college student that takes about 17-19 hours a semester, my breaks come few and far between. The hours of the main cafeteria on campus, known as "The Fresh Food Company," are not excellent to begin with, but when I finally break away for a meal (usually 1pm for lunch and 7pm for dinner), the Fresh does not have any food that they advertise online. This is simply unacceptable considering how much money I have to pay for the required meal plan.

Mr. Harrell's article is the best source for understanding our problem. However, you are the best source for helping fix the problem. By signing this petition, you are letting Dr. Rodney Bennett (President, USM) and Dr. Douglas Vinzant (VP Finance and Administration, USM) know that we are done with the circus. We want our voices heard about what we want on campus (either through email survey or in person) by assessing our contractual relationship with the Aramark Corporation, or we want to halt business with the Aramark Corporation.  *please note that Aramark Corp owns Eagle Dining*
