A Year of Disappointments for Mapúans and Malayans.

April 7, 2021

A Personal Letter from the creator of this petition.

A year after the initial petition calling for change, we are here once again in troublesome waters for the whole Malayan and Mapúan community calling for action the #academicreforms than the installment of band-aid solutions that eventually brought our quality of education to it is lowest beyond comprehension.

I have received various emails and messages from all parts of our community, and I am here to tell you that I am with you. We have all had our troubling times specially on the sudden offset of coronavirus cases that suddenly put us at greater fear of our possible societal and economical collapse as our government failed on effective and efficient management of this ongoing health crisis.

From the start, my conceptualization for creating the petition was to let our School Admins understand that we are needing help, that we are not learning, that we are in a situation that they could not even comprehend. From those suffering from anxieties and depressions and must deal with the inconsistency and toxicity of the learning and home environment, feel you to the common student that is having a hard time to professors that showed no remorse nor effort to even show a straight face to say that we care for each other, I hear you.

I made the petition for I had enough.

I HAD ENOUGH of non-transparency of Laboratory, tuition, and Miscellaneous fees.

For example, in the IT Industry Related Courses, ever wonder why we have a laboratory fee even though it is or own computers, our own internet providers, and our own resources we use to accomplish our tasks.

Examples like these are what we aim to ask to our corporate stakeholders that we demand TRANSPARENCY on THESE FEES. WE ARE NOT MONEY MULES that are just forced to take the course since we need to finish our education but taking these courses seems to be more of a financial obligation than just an obligation to learn.

I HAD ENOUGH of our school’s corporate leadership’s lack of foresight and poor planning

I cannot even comprehend on why our school’s admin waits for face-to-face classes. Why NOT create a student-centric solution. ONE WORD: LISTEN TO YOUR STUDENTS. Your students are not rebelling, they just want to ask for your time to employ change. Situations form last year is the same as it is now. WHAT A SHAME, both Mapuan and Malayan Schools could have done better than this. Do the admins want to know why Malayans and Mapúans do not talk much about their frustrations? Because they do not have a VOICE, they do not have Representation. A School built on capitalistic culture than on democracy have total control and say to even the official Student Councils. Student councils does not have the independence it needs. Feedback surveys you say? so why if we make a feedback it is like nothing happens? Lack of transparency to quality policies I must say.

I HAD ENOUGH of our school’s incompetency at inconsistent quality of learning

Some professors are compassionate and has remorse, some even have the straight face to even do not teach anymore. We even experience learning from a YouTube channel or an online resource where there is not even an essence of teacher-student interaction.  For those who do care for their students, we as a general student community say THANK YOU. However, even having this kind of disparity on educational quality is a shame to the culture of excellence we endowed on this schools. We ask you a challenge, be a student for once. Dr. Reynaldo Vea, we dare you to be a student in your own schools, imagine having to face professors who does not even want to seem to provide effort while we try to exert our best effort and be returned with grades that’s either don’t reflect of what we learn due to the disparity of quality, like our quizzes, lessons, and even exams seem to be copy pasted from an online resource. As much as we want an ACADEMIC BREAK, WE WANT YOUR SCHOOL TO TAKE ITS TIME TO REVAMP EDUCATIONAL QUALITY.

And STILL both Malayan and Mapúan Schools have the straight face to say “We’re fine”

REALITY CHECK, Dr. Vea WE ARE NOT FINE. WE WANT CHANGE!
